Fun Winter Activities in Alabama for Anyone in Your Family

Start the winter season on a positive note when you try any of these four activities in Alabama this season.

Hone your golfing skills

Beat the winter blues while stepping up your game when you go golfing at one of the coastal golf courses nearby. Orange Beach Golf Center and Kiva Dunes Resort are two great places to start. If you prefer mountain landscapes to beach views, head to Cloudmont Ski & Golf Resort in Mentone, AL.

Fish on the Gulf

Soak in scenic views of the Gulf of Mexico while testing your angling skills at Gulf State Park Pier. The pier extends 1,540 feet and is 20 feet wide, offering 2,448 feet of seating space. There’s also an on-site restaurant so you can grab a bit to eat when you get hungry, then go right back to your spot.

Shop the Mobile Museum of Art’s Night Market

Make headway on your holiday shopping list when you attend the monthly Mobile Museum of Art’s Night Market on Dec. 5 from 5-9 p.m. Browse vendor booths to explore a diverse array of handmade goods and locally-crafted items. Music and food help provide a festive backdrop to your shopping.

Attend the Huntsville Christmas Craft Show

Mark your calendar for the weekend of Dec. 6-8 to catch the Huntsville Christmas Craft Show. The bazaar will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The wares available for purchase will span a variety of mediums including stained glass, pottery, jewelry, floral arrangements, needlework, ceramics, toys, woodwork, and clothing.

Fall Fun at the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum

Looking for something fun to do this fall with the whole family in the Calera, Alabama area? The Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum is opening up its Pumpkin Patch Express every Saturday and Sunday in October.

Board the vintage train with cars from throughout the 20th century. You can ride in open-air cars where the engine horn will knock your socks off, on two leveled cars for high unobstructed views, back in the caboose with the brakeman, and even in the locomotive. The train will speed you through beautiful fall foliage and deliver you to the Pumpkin Patch. There, families can indulge in all the joys of the season with bounce houses, hay rides, and a corn maze. Don’t forget to pick your pumpkins from the patch before you head home. There are plenty of exhibits to explore once back at the depot, including real life railroad equipment and the working Signal Garden.

More fun is on the way at Christmastime with the North Pole Express. Some travelers may even get a chance to see Santa on the train with them. There are always events going on at the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum so check back often. Sometimes even Thomas the Tank Engine stops by for a visit.

We at Stokes Automotive love cars, but we also appreciate the character and heritage of trains. That’s why we recommend you take your family to the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum.

Fall Maintenance Tips to Prepare Your Car for Cold, Rainy Weather

To keep your car in excellent condition, it’s important to provide seasonal upkeep. As summer comes to an end, use these fall maintenance tips to get your vehicle ready for the cooler weather.

Replace Wiper Blades

New wiper blades are inexpensive and easy to replace, and they make a huge difference in visibility and safety. If it’s been a while since you replaced your car’s wiper blades, take care of them now in anticipation of the fall showers.

Check Tires

When was the last time you had your car’s tires replaced? If you’re not sure, it’s definitely time to inspect their condition. Look to see that the tread is still deep and that there are no signs of wear, like cracks or bulges. If there are, it’s time to get new tires for your car in order to ensure good traction and safe handling.

Check Fluids

Your car needs an oil change three or four times a year, so the start of a new season is a great time to do it. Bring your car to Stokes Automotive and let our team change your car’s oil and filter. This improves efficiency and helps protect your car’s engine from damage. While we’re there, we can check levels on other important fluids, like coolant, transmission, brake, and steering fluid.

If your car needs its oil changed or tires replaced, bring it to Stokes Automotive.
